A while ago I thought of writing here on this blog about my various voyages around the country side.
But I haven’t written all that much. I could, though. I travel all over the place!
I often feel like we need to get out of our houses, travel around, and see our own “backyards”. Most of us can’t exactly afford to go on huge trips…not even once a year. So what’s the next best thing? Traveling right in the areas we’re in.
One thing I’ve learned is that I could probably stay overnight in a new town or city within my own province 4 times a year for the next 50 years and not run out of places to see. The point is, there’s an adventure all around you if you open your eyes.
What’s the alternative? To NOT see your surroundings as an adventure and be bored.
I feel like I’m addicted to “places” and new roads. I feel like if I take the same roads over and over, I’m not really living. If I see a new place, I feel more alive…like I’m experiencing more around me…assimilating my surroundings.
Today for example, I had to check out a problem in a beautiful town 40 minutes from my house that I’ve never really explored. So while I was there, I took the time to drive around and discover.
The town is called Port Hope (Ontario) and it’s got a lot of very nice old homes and a really cool downtown core. There was also a really nice neighborhood up on a hill that overlooked Lake Ontario; this was the upper class area and the houses were probably built around 1820. While driving that area and a few others, I got a familiar feeling I sometimes get when I explore, where my heart starts to beat harder and faster, and I get the overwhelming feeling that I’m in an amazing place…and I feel very happy.
Of course, in moments like that I feel very alive…like I haven’t wasted the day…I’ve done something worth-while, no matter how small it really is to just drive around and explore new places. Plus I get motivated to do more with my time so that I can one day live in an awesome place like that!
I wish I took a picture for you…which I often do while I’m out. But just check that link above.
Anyway, look for some more posts from me in the future where I just talk about random things. 🙂
