  • Hello Shawn, thank you for all these thought provoking quotes on pride. Pride can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on what you are proud of, if you are proud of someone you love because of what they have achieved through hard work and perseverance, then it is a worthy pride; the same if you are proud of your accomplishments because you helped someone during their time of struggle or you brought about something amazing to enrich their life, sure be proud.

In all these instances there was love combined with pride and I believe that the two go together.

LOVE & PRIDE: two principles of the life force. Love & pride as opposite streams of the life force, together constitute life. They are opposite principles. The salvation of life lies in binding the opposite principles into a holistic harmony. Indians call the principles as Prikriti and Purusha facets of life and nature. Chinese represent it in Yin and Yang symbolisms. Almost all great civilizations of yore recognized the interplay of the negative
and positive energies of nature that drive life and natural processes forward to a recondite objective. End indeed is incomprehensible. But means are within the reach of human experience.

Truth is that love sans pride is impotent and insipid while pride sans love is hollow and directionless. Interplay of love and pride makes life what it is worth of – potent, tasteful, fertile and purposeful. Pride is incomplete without love and love is incomprehensible without pride. Love is all for pride, while pride is the very oxygen by which love survives

    • Hey, there's 2 kinds of pride and the meanings are sometimes misunderstood; one is good pride...pride in your work, a healthy respect for the things you do...and then there's the egotistical pride...the kind that says "I'm better than you". In the context of this post, it's reflecting the "bad pride". Thanks, :)

  • I really like your thoughts about pride. But can you explain to me if someone's taking initiative collecting financial support for wife's hospitalization without my knowledge, and suddenly I rejected and refused the financial offer, is that pride?

Please enlighten me oh how do i explain my rejection to financial assistance, which i never ask them to do for me.

    Thanks,

    Jimmy

    • Jimmy, think of it this way: those people who tried to do a good thing are now being denied the blessings (good karma, etc...whatever you want to call it) of doing their charitable act. Almost like their very progression...and yours...are being stifled and choked off.

I think you already know the answer. Sorry for your situation. I do hope it improves; accepting the donation might be the first step.
