Good morning Shawn! There were several quotes that were great,My fav. would be #29,now if I could just learn to live by it!!!!!!!!!! Thank you Deanna these self-control quotes have been a real eye opener for me this morning, and so now I should make everyday a great one for Me and God are in control of every aspect of my life.Thank you again, hope you have a GREAT day!
Unfortunately the quote by Barbara D’Angelis is not true.
We can change many things about our life, but sometimes there are things that we just cannot change.
These THINGS THAT WE CANNOT CHANGE are what really are the problem in everyone’s life.
For example, we can quit drinking, but we cannot change the life situation that caused us to drink in the first place.
We can be ugly and get platic surgery, go to the gym, lose weight, get a new wardrobe, and be financially successful, but even with all THAT we will never be a movie star-fashion model…
We can never have happy childhood memories if we were abused and neglected.
Sometimes none of the pat answers and pollyanna positive thinking are ever going to change the situation at all.
At those times it seems that the real challenge is not how we change the things we don’t like, but how we learn to accept, and live with, the things we just cannot change. Once we start to do this, then we really can begin to have a great life.
And who knows? It might not have been as a big a problem as we had thought in the first place — even if we can’t change it.
“Be thankful for your problems. You can never enjoy the virtue of patience unless you have the opportunity to practice it.”
I feel the quote has a singular deeper meaning. We cannot change our past, but we can control out actions and our mind so that the past doesn’t control us.
Hey Shawn, thanks for the quotes i love em, i wish i do some…

I like # 1 . He who rules passions ,desires and fears is more than a king . What a great saying . I have failed miserably at all three. but I am starting to wake up out of my stupor . slowly . I use to trust God to make me strong . I depended on his promises to give me the willpower to control myself . but no magic power came down to help me . now I see it is up to me to change . self control is indeed the highest man can attain to . it brings dignity to a person ; and respect . without self control we are a rudderless ship , as one of the quotes say .
also I like the one that says ” he who angers you conquers you . I have always fought back with great anger . I am learning not to react in anger or to defend myself with words . but to let my life show who I am . my actions to speak instead of words . I am old , but I am still a fool . I have so much to overcome still . I must remind myself of all these wise sayings everyday . and work at it . these sayings are what makes a person happy . and feel proud of themself . thank you for this precious site .
Great comments, Rick! It sounds like you’re well on your way and making progress. I guess we’re all in the same boat.
