  1. Dear Shawn

I really loved all of them – experience is what everyone is trying to reach in order to achieve higher ground in this life- the real definition lies in this quote “Good judgment comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgment. -Bob Packwood”

  2. Thank you very much Shawn for sharing so valuable quotes… definitely give a new angle to look at same thing but in a positive way… I liked all of them !!

    Once again .. Thanks a lottttt !!!!

  3. These a good reminders Shawn but they do make one begin to wonder whatever happened to the idea that success breeds success if all of our “experience” comes from our learning from our mistakes. While learning from mistakes is the right way to benefit from them, perhaps some of our good experiences; the ones that taught us “we can do this!” deserves just a little recognition in our overall understanding of the value of experience.

  4. Shawn, great quotes. However, I have to agree with David on his point. A collection of mistakes is known as “experience”, but a collection of successes is also known as experience.

    • Yes, it was a very good point. I didn’t quite know how to say that…so I’ve been letting his words simmer in my mind for a day. It’s so true, but there seems to be almost no material out there for me to quote. Do you guys know where I can get some quotations that reflect that direction of thought?

  5. Hi Shawn, life is all about experiences, good or bad, happy or sad it teaches us many things. Thank you for sharing your quotes.

Here are a few quotes I also found interesting:

You cannot help but learn more as you take the world into your hands. Take it up reverently, for it is an old piece of clay, with millions of thumbprints on it. ~John Updike

“Experience is not a matter of having actually swum the Hellespont, or danced with the dervishes, or slept in a doss-house. It is a matter of sensibility and intuition, of seeing, and hearing the significant thing, of paying attention at the right moments, of understanding and coordinating. Experience is not what happens to a man; it is what a man does with what happens to him.” — Aldous Huxley

“Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.” –Douglas Adams

“We should come home from adventures, and perils, and discoveries every day with new experience and character.” –Henry David Thoreau

”It is not how much you know about life but how you live your life that counts. Those who can avoid mistakes by observing the mistakes of others are most apt to keep free from sorrow. In a world full of uncertainties, the record of what has gone before–human experience–is as sure and reliable as anything of which we know.” —

”To live means to experience–through doing, feeling, thinking. Experience takes place in time, so time is the ultimate scarce resource we have. Over the years, the content of experience will determine the quality of life. Therefore one of the most essential decisions any of us can make is about how one’s time is allocated or invested.” –Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

“You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, ‘I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.’ You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” –Eleanor Roosevelt

“A writer needs three things, experience, observation, and imagination, any two of which, at times any one of which, can supply the lack of the others.” –William Faulkner

“It is possible to make each year bring with it a lasting gift to add to the fullness of experience, to be treasured up, savored, and remembered. They need not be startling, these gifts of the years; they may be things that lie within the reach of all.” –Grenville Kleiser

As the traveler who has once been from home is wiser than he who has never left his own doorstep, so a knowledge of one other culture should sharpen our ability to scrutinize more steadily, to appreciate lovingly, our own.” –Margaret Mead

“When it’s time to die, let us not discover that we have never lived.” –Henry David Thoreau

    Take care, enjoy your weekend

  6. Most great achievers learnt through trial and error. They did not have many success story to read before plunging into the world of unknown. Moreover, they were not afraid to make mistakes hence they have more testimonials than those who achieve by following success story.

  7. That’s indeed a good point… But when I thought over it, I found no one will write a quote on achieving Success .. as being a Winner they no more need it …
But the one who looses couple of times in a row does sit down and introspect himself. He needs motivation during this examination to come back in battle field …so are all quotes show us how to take failure in positive sense …

**This is what came to my mind while thinking and searching for success quotes…
