Hello Shawn,
Thank you for the great quotes, here are some of my favourites.

My thoughts on marriage:
I believe the true meaning of marriage is love. By love I mean not what we feel but what we do. Love as a feeling is very flimsy. An up and down roller coaster. Love is an action! In order for it to become the ultimate force and for us to rediscover the true meaning of marriage, love has to be unconditional. When you love someone you do, not feel. When you do it, it is unconditional. You are not looking for acceptance or validation. You are giving of yourself to another not because of them but because of your values. This is the true meaning of marriage. A death to ones self so that another may live and benefit from your sacrifice.
Marriage is not an easy road to walk. It is the most rewarding road however. An old Buddhist saying goes like this, ‘I want peace’. If you take your ego (I) and your desires (want) out of the equation i.e. the self, you will have only peace left. The true meaning of marriage is expressing love unconditionally to another. It is an unstoppable force that can endure anything. How do you find it? Within yourself. You have to draw strength from you. Neither seeking validation nor acceptance. Just seeking the opportunity to show love.
This may be a little old fashion for some, but I have to ask, all these modern ideas about marriage how to they compare, has marriage improved?
Take care always….
Again…amazing thoughts you’ve shared here, Lee. I’ve learned a lot from posting these quotes today and from your comments and it makes me resolve to be a better husband! I just had my (our) 14th anniversary last month. While it hasn’t always been easy, I never ever considered any other choice but staying together forever. (failure isn’t an option) Ever get the impression that some people throw in the towel too soon? Hmmm…they should read this page first!
Of all the quotes I have read, these marriage quotes really pull me in! Coming up on 25 yrs of marriage and have came from parents and grandparents of divorce…..it is well worth it!! My Gosh….there is a big picture here..

Thanks for sharing these great quotes on marriage. Please feel free to check on some African proverbs I posted today on love and marriage Incidentally, I included the proverb you shared here about the man without a wife being like a vase without flowers. Food for thought, indeed.
Blessings and happiness,

Great quotes! I do have to take exception to Amy Grant’s, though, considering she cheated on her husband with Vince Gill, who was also married at the time. She certainly showed how much she invested and valued marriage.
Ha, ha! Very good point, Julie. I always remember seeing all the hoopla in the media over that Grant-Gill issue. I guess it’s good that at least they’re still together. 🙂 But definitely, that’s a strange quotation considering the circumstances.
Hi Shawn,
I will be away for a while as I am not well.
Take care always!
Lee, I will miss you while you’re gone. Take your time, rest, and get well.
I have been married 30 years and your thoughts on marriage are right on! Especially your quote “When you love someone you do, not feel. When you do it, it is unconditional.” 🙂
Oh, that part you quoted came from your fellow subscriber, Lee. As you can tell, she is very thoughtful and sharing. I love her!
