Note: It’s easy to get confused over the subject of prosperity. Many older writers talk about what terrible a thing it is. More modern writers say we deserve prosperity and that it’s good, no matter what. I tried to include some of each school of thought.
When prosperity comes, do not use all of it. -Confucius
Prosperity is too apt to prevent us from examining our conduct, but adversity leads us to think properly of our state, and so is most beneficial to us. -Johnson
When I chased after money, I never had enough. When I got my life on purpose and focused on giving of myself and everything that arrived into my life, then I was prosperous. -Wayne Dyer
Thought = creation. If these thoughts are attached to powerful emotions (good or bad) that speeds the creation. -“The Secret”
The prosperity of a people is proportionate to the number of hands and minds usefully employed. To the community, sedition is a fever, corruption is a gangrene, and idleness is an atrophy. Whatever body or society wastes more than it acquires, must gradually decay, and every being that continues to be fed, and ceases to labor, takes away something from the public stock. -Johnson
It may here be justly said, that genuine morality is preserved only in the school of adversity, and a state of continuous prosperity may easily prove a quicksand to virtue. -Friedrich Schiller
The old thought that one cannot be rich except at the expense of his neighbor, must pass away. True prosperity adds to the richness of the whole world, such as that of the man who makes two trees grow where only one grew before. The parasitical belief in prosperity as coming by the sacrifices of others has no place in the mind that thinks true. My benefit is your benefit, your success is my success, should be the basis of all our wealth. -Anne Rix Miltz
It is often better to be restricted to necessity than unconfined in the measure of our desires: prosperity destroys more individuals than adversity ruins. -Norm MacDonald
That fortitude which has encountered no dangers, that prudence which has surmounted no difficulties, that integrity which has been attacked by no temptation, can at best be considered but as gold not yet brought to the test, of which therefore the true value cannot be assigned. -Johnson
There is no scarcity of opportunity to make a living at what you love; there’s only scarcity of resolve to make it happen. -Wayne Dyer
Prosperity has this property, it puffs up narrow souls, makes them imagine themselves high and mighty, and looks down upon the world with contempt; but a truly noble and resolved spirit appears greatest in distress, and then becomes more bright and conspicuous. -Plutarch
In prosperity prepare for a change; in adversity hope for one. -Burgh
All of this abundance begins to shine through a mind that is aware of it’s own infinite nature. There’s enough for everyone. See it. Believe it. It will show up for you. -“The Secret”
It’s God’s will for you to live in prosperity instead of poverty. It’s God’s will for you to pay your bills and not be in debt. -Joel Osteen
The virtue of prosperity is temperance, but the virtue of adversity is fortitude; and the last is the more sublime attainment. -Bacon
No man is prosperous whose immortality is forfeited. No man is rich to whom the grave brings eternal bankruptcy. No man is happy upon whose path there rests but a momentary glimmer of light, shining out between clouds that are closing over him in darkness forever. -H.W. Beecher
When you are able to shift your inner awareness to how you can serve others, and when you make this the central focus of your life, you will then be in a position to know true miracles in your progress toward prosperity. -Wayne Dyer
A weak mind sinks under prosperity as well as under adversity. A strong and deep one has two highest tides, when the moon is at full, and when there is no moon. -Hare
Prosperity in the form of wealth works exactly the same as everything else. You will see it coming into your life when you are unattached to needing it. -Wayne Dyer
In prosperity our friends know us; in adversity we know our friends. -John Churton Collins
“No degree of prosperity can be sufficient to eliminate all misfortune, and sloth is impervious to opportunity. -Dean Koontz (read this one a couple times!!) lol
