We would pray for more than understanding.
We would pray for a sense of common destiny
In a world in time, made small by man’s
Achievement, weighted by selfishness, marred
By power, but inescapably harnessed to
Eternity by small glimpses and mighty
Surges of man’s aspiration to move
From all levels of being to that high freedom
Where the soul is won to his own keeping.
So we would pray for a sense of common destiny
Which arises in our will to be sharers
Of the burden of all mankind, and
Sharers of its total victories and defeats.
