Gossip

Gossip

Gossip seems to be popular, but it is always a waste of time, generally inaccurate, and frequently vicious.  One who indulges in it exhibits low breeding and empty brain, devoid of substantial or constructive thinking.  Uncertainty, rumor and scandal are its vehicle.  It cuts and slashes, and leaves raw bone of distrust, suspicions and heartaches.  It does no one any good and everybody harm.  It is cankerous and malignant, the father of lies.  “Tale bearers are just as bad as tale makers.” (Sheridan)

The gentle, the fair and the honorable eschew it as poison itself.  Self-respect and gentlemanliness will not tolerate it.  It is contrary to Christian spirit and violates the command of God to “Love they neighbor as thyself.”

-William H. Reeder, Jr.
