By far and away the best of all of these quotes is this one single thought. “As long as you think you’re green, you’ll grow. As soon as you think you’re ripe, you’ll rot. -Scott Horton

I like this quote so much that I will not only post it on the college lobby information screen, but plan on making a plaque for my desk with it. Don’t you hate entering into a discussion that quickly draws to an abrupt end simply because those involved think they already know all there is to know about a given subject? I love hearing from those who know more that I and I enjoy sharing info with those willing to consider a different perspective. This quote sums it up nicesly. Thanks

Well said, David. I know what you mean; I often say, during discussions of opposing views, “Good point; I agree with you now.” Basically, when a person makes a good point, I change my view. Do you know how often I hear other people say that same thing back to me or anyone else? Almost never. Some people don’t even want to listen to your point of view; they make up their minds ahead of time. Sometimes I say to people, “Is that really your opinion? Or are you against my point because it came from me?” It is so much nicer when people can just agreeably talk about their issues and listen to all the points…and as you say “sharing info with those willing to consider a different perspective”.

I love “What lies behind us, and what lies before us, are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” Have it on a plaque I’ve had for decades – you have it attributed to Oliver W. Holmes though, whereas mine has Emerson as the source………

I guess you’re right; I did a search and while some sites said is was Holmes, there were tons of sites attributing it to Emerson. I’ll change it. Thanks!

I used say this to my sons when they were growing up so they would choose carefully the decisions they made in life.

    I also like this one:
What lies behind us, and what lies before us, are tiny matters compared to what lies within us. -Ralph Waldo Emerson
