It has been awhile since I was able to really sit down and take my time to read through your quotes. I no longer have the early morning hours available for my one personal use like I enjoyed in the past. So now, when I can find the opportunity, I like to take a moment and simply look through your quotes, if for no other purpose than to force me to think outside my normal train of thought for a while. These dependency quotes seem to have done the trick. Here is the quote that has captured my attention this morning:
“In war, when a commander becomes so bereft of reason and perspective that he fails to understand the dependence of arms on Divine guidance, he no longer deserves victory.” -Douglas MacArthur
Douglas MacArthur was a man to admire. Even in my line of work as the president of a Christian College, one might think that a person could never loose sight of the need to maintain one’s dependency on Divine guidance however, that line of thinking can cause great disaster. The one who is lulled into believing that a personal relationship with God comes with the job is the one who just might find himself walking down the same road as King Saul. There is no job, no walk of life and no life style capable of keeping a person connected with God. To the contrary, it is the humble man, who faithfully relies upon his dependency on God who finds himself enabled and fully capable of meeting the greatest challenges of every job in any walk of life out of any given lifestyle.
Awesome words, David. And thanks for always sticking with me, even after all these years! I will be starting up the mailing list again soon, so I’ll be able to keep in better contact.
BTW, your words reflect some of what’s been on my mind lately; I realize that all too often we tend to omit God from our business decisions, when if we learned a little more dependence on Him, the compounding effect of years of divine influence might bring us to our goals a lot faster. Thanks again; hopefully you see this comment. 🙂 -Shawn
One must guard against people who would want you to be dependant upon them. They almost allways want to exploit you one way or the other for personal gain.
Well said! 🙂
