The Things I Get – Poem

The Things I Get - Poem
Here’s a nice poem I found recently.

Hope you like it.

The Things I Get

Do you get everything you want?  You don’t? Well, I’ll declare,
That’s strange–I have the same complaint. Perhaps it’s not so rare.

The things we don’t want come to us, in bunches, every day;
But when we really like a thing, it seems to stay away.

We hope and wish and pray and cry, and scheme and work and plan;
While our desires remain beyond the reach of mortal man.

So, after years of fruitless hopes, I think I’ll cease to fret
And when I don’t get things I like, I’ll like the things I get!

    Excellent.A naked truth for every life.Let us not lament for which we have not in our possession and enjoy a lot which we have.

    Hello Shawn, words in this poem are so very true. We forget to value the things we do have sometimes until we lose them. I gave some thought to the things I do have in my life and the more I thought about them, I realized I am very blessed.

    I love to watch a sunrise and sunset, all of GOD’s art work that covers our earth and skies. I love to see my granddaughter smile watching her as she grows. I love the smell of morning with the scent of trees and flowers crisp in the cool dew air. I love to see the stars and moon at night, smell the sea, listen to the waves tumbling to shore. I love to listen to the birds sing. I love to see my friends smile and help each other in times of need, a testament to human community. I love watching the lightning strikes across the sky creating a magical dance. No fireworks ever looked so impressive. I love the sound of thunder that that can be felt through closed doors. I love creating imagery in artistic expression such as love and beauty and continuity of time through poetry. I love to watch people do kind and thoughtful things demonstrating their virtues as they interrupt their lives to help each other. The amazing love that is shared in my world is a gift to behold. I am thankful every day for all the gifts I already have including my family friends and God in my life and although I may wish for other things I know that compared to the things I already have they pale in significance.

    Have a lovely day!

    Forgive me as I know I am a little slow in answering all your quotes. I am still recovering from my surgery and I have some good days and some days I get really tired, I will get there be assured.
