It was my birthday recently, so my wife prepared a big surprise weekend for me.
She set up a sleep-over at my mom’s house for our kids, told me to grab my suit, and we hopped in the car this past Friday night.
After dropping off the kids, we drove off to Brampton to attend a church function, which was quite peaceful and vivifying. 🙂
It was fun because all the way through our outing, she was telling me, “Ok, now go here; turn there, etc.”
So, next we went to The Keg for a late dinner. Do you know The Keg? It’s famously known as being a great steak house. I’d been there several time during work meals, but my wife had never been there (plus, we had a $25 gift card for it).
Man, oh, man! I was SO happy with my order! For an appetizer, we’d ordered a platter of mushrooms, sweet potato fries, and asparagus in butter.  My goodness, I felt like crying because it was SO good…especially when you mix all 3 items together. I still want to cry just thinking about it; it was delicious!
For the main course, I got Cajun chicken with mashed potatoes. Again, it was amazing.
So then my wife began again with the “Go here, turn there” and we ended up at the Sheraton Hotel by the Toronto airport. She got a good price for it on priceline.com. So we had a nice stay in a 4-star hotel for probably half price. 🙂
In the morning, we took our time getting up. We left around 10:15am and again she told me where to go. This time, we ended up at the AMC Theater and watched “Inception”. Of course, it was very entertaining. We saw “Salt” last week and I liked Inception better.
For lunch she directed us to our favorite Indian buffet restaurant on Bovaird. Nice!
Next, we started driving north out of Brampton and turned down some country road; eventually we ended up at a place I was only semi-aware about…a place called “The Badlands“. It’s a big deposit of minerals that looks like red rocks of the deserts in Utah/Arizona. Here’s a pic:
Weird, huh?
Next, for fun, I took HER somewhere close by that I love; I took her to a winding road called “Forks of the Credit Road”. After that, we went home.
Nice Friday/Saturday, wasn’t it? Also, kudos to my wife for planning such a tricky and fun and romantic way to celebrate a birthday!
